UK Wedding Taskforce: Industry Updates 8/2/21

The wedding sector has been paralyzed by restrictions caused by COVID-19, with three-quarters of businesses reporting a 75% loss to revenues (UK Weddings Survey). However, with couples showing trends towards rearranging weddings instead of cancelling them the sector is asking for a clear roadmap and financial support bridge (of £680 million). This will increase confidence in the sector once again. This is a small ask for an industry that will contribute £25 billion for the UK economy in 2021 alone (Open Air Business).

The UK Wedding Task Force has been making amazing progress getting the Government to listen to our sector. As a response to their campaigning and conversations with the government;

  • Over 80 cross-party MP’s have signed a letter supporting sector-specific support and a roadmap to safe reopening.
  • This week there will be a follow-up meeting with Minister Paul Scully to discuss their support request.
  • On 16th February, they will be holding a second MP’s round-table discussion based on the challenges facing the industry specifically concerning opening up.

We hope that the government listens to their requests and includes our industry in the upcoming roadmap and gives much-needed support.
